A Picture A Day

My apologies on the late start today! It's been a crazy one, that's for sure. How is your Wednesday and your week going?

Below are some images I have been working on for baby shower cards. None of them are quite finished yet. I was just trying to get all of my ideas out as fast as possible and haven't been able to focus on the details yet, but I do like where they are going. More updates to come at a later date!

Enjoy!

Pinterest Pics

Clockwise from top left: Newspaper ribbon, silver wrapping with pine cones, sweater wrapped wine bottles, s'more hostess gifts, peacock feather, white and silver, newspaper rosettes

I'm always on the lookout for unique gift wrapping ideas. I'm also always trying to pick paper that is a little more on the neutral side so it can be used for Christmas and Hanukkah gifts and manage to be festive for both (lol am I asking to much from a piece of paper?). I love gold and silver, white and glitter, and even the brown paper with glamorous accessories!

This year, with my addiction to Pinterest, I couldn't help but search for packaging ideas. I especially love the sweater wine holders and will probably be giving those to the hostess at any and all holiday parties I attend.

Do you know what you will be wrapping your gifts in this year!?

A Picture A Day

Today is a very special A Picture A Day. It's the reveal of the final announcement first mentioned here!

There comes a point in a project where months of hard work and collaboration come to an end and you receive the final product. It's a bittersweet point for me because over the course of the project I have worked so hard and can't wait to see the final, but it's also a funny point because you get to know your client(s) and it's weird to be like "ok, here is your final product, bye!"

Below is an example of one of those projects. I have been working with a wonderful couple to create an announcement that tells their special story. The announcement literally unfolds and reveals pieces of the story until you get to the middle and find out they are married. They were the sweetest couple and this has been an awesome project so while I'm SO excited to show you the final today I'm also a little sad that the project is over.

What do you think? Will their friends and family love it!?

A Picture A Day

Good Morning Sweets, and Happy Monday! I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Can you believe Thanksgiving came and went so quickly!? I definitely can't and I'm a little sad it's over but it's three weeks until Christmakah (a made-up Holiday from The O.C. that my husband and copied and celebrate since he is Jewish and I am Catholic. Every year, the Saturday before Christmas, we celebrate our own holiday and we exchange gifts and hangout eating a delicious breakfast and watching movies but I'll tell you more about that later...) and a little less then a month until Christmas and Hanukkah and there will be many more nights with family and friends, twinkling lights, shiny little bows, bubbly champagne, and snuggly fires in the fireplace between now and New Years, it's the best time of year and I'm really looking forward to it.

At any rate, since I've now gone on a serious tangent, and to be honest, the tangent has nothing to do with my A Picture A Day, I'll stop now... Below are two potential logo designs for my cousin. We are going to use this design and create a business card as well as resume and letterhead template for her to use.

A Picture A Day

Happy Wednesday, and it's one day until Thanksgiving!

Today I am thankful for my husband (as a side note, I am not normally this sappy so enjoy it while it lasts) who is amazingly supportive, encouraging, and loves me even when I'm stressed out and having a bad day and freaking out. I am so blessed to have met him. He is always there for me no matter what, and I don't know what I would do without him.

And on that note, my A Picture A Day is a wedding invitation. I've been working with the lovely Heather to create an invitation for a destination wedding. We wanted to create something elegant but also knew we could have a little fun with the design since it won't be your traditional church wedding. When we first started working together she brought me a three tiered Save-the-Date as inspiration. We modified it to fit their needs and created a three tiered wedding invitation that will have a grommet and elegant antique gold ribbon in the top left corner to hold the three pieces together. The top layer has her and her fiance's name, the middle layer is the invitation, and the bottom layer is the information about the destination, how to get there, where to stay, etc.

Thank you Heather for working with me on such a unique project. Happy Planning!

And a very Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

A Picture A Day: Today I am thankful for

Happy Tuesday Sweets!

It's two days away from Thanksgiving, and it's my cousin Kelli's birthday (of Klicious Cupcakes), so a very special happy birthday to her!

For today's I am Thankful For, I am thankful for Paris. I know what you are thinking... huh?! Paris??? But my husband and I went to Paris for our honeymoon last March and I credit a big part of my creativity, happiness, and inspiration to that trip.

I had been taking a break from art for the last four years and I've thought about starting again numerous times prior to our trip and something always just "got in the way" and so when I came back filled with the beautiful images of Paris, my inspiration went into overdrive, and thus, Sweet Musings and Coco + Louie appeared. Eight months later I continue to be incredibly happy and inspired. I love the direction life is taking me in. And so, to simplify all of that, I am thankful for Paris :-)

What are you thankful for today?

Sweet Muse: Thanksgiving Decor

I'm thankful for (and inspired by) dinners spent with family, soft fall colors (especially those green and coral hues), hot coco with tiny marshmallows and whipped cream, and crisp chilly nights wrapped in a soft fluffy sweater!

A Picture A Day: Things I'm Thankful For

Happy Monday Sweets, and a Happy Thanksgiving week!

I don't know about you but Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love that it isn't about religion or presents, it's just about being thankful, having a wonderful meal, spending time with your family and friends, and just enjoying being together.

With all of this in mind, I'm dedicating this week to all things I'm thankful for. So, to start this week, and A Picture A Day, I have to say how thankful I am to all of my friends, family, and lovely readers for their amazing support and encouragement and for pushing me toward my goals. You are all so wonderful and help me feel like I'm succeeding everyday. I couldn't do this without you.

With that in mind below is a project I'm working on with a friend who I haven't seen in a very long time, and together we are creating a gift for a wonderful bride. I can't wait to show all of you the final. I also can't give you any other information then this because I don't want to spoil the surprise, but I promise, once the gift is received you will see the final then :-) This is just one of the sketches and the final looks nothing like it, but I really liked the color palette so I'm showing you this one.

Have a wonderful Monday!

A Picture A Day

I've been working with a lovely client to create a custom illustration of herself and her two french bulldogs to give to her mom and grandmom as a gift. Below is a detail of the illustration. I just love the frenchies expression and adorable outfit.

I'll show you the full illustration once it's complete, but for now, enjoy the little pups :-)

Happy Wednesday Sweets.

Pinterest Pics: Dessert!

In case you haven't guessed, I have a serious sweet tooth. I would skip food and eat only dessert all the time if I could, I don't, but I would if I could... And with the holidays coming and a ton of parties and events to go to I always like to bring a dessert. So, I've been looking up desserts, of all kinds, on Pinterest. Here are a few that I'm seriously craving / may have to try making this week.

What do you think? What do you like to bring to parties? Do you have a sweet tooth?

A Picture A Day

Today's A Picture A Day is actually three pictures. I'm making up for missing a few last week ;-) but I also wanted to show each of these tote designs together. Elizabeth contacted me through Etsy to create a custom tote bag for herself as well as for her mom and her sister. She wanted each of their dogs with their names and illustration of their personalities on the bags. I think the designs came out great and while they are each very different, all three are adorable (in my humble opinion anyway).

Thank you Elizabeth for letting me create these totes for you! I hope you, your mom, and your sister enjoy them!

A Picture A Day

Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend?! Mine was relaxing filled with parties and friends, but as usual, went by way to fast.

For today's A Picture A Day I wanted to show you an illustration I've been working on with a lovely reader, Amy. She wanted to create a special gift for her equally lovely sister and thought an illustration of the two of them would be great. Amy sent me a photo of her and her sister hugging and wanted the final illustration to have them hugging as well, she also had read my post with the Moroccan prints and wanted to incorporate those into the image. Other then that she gave me complete freedom to create something special for her. The final image has a long horizontal layout and subtle print in the background to allow her and her sister to really pop off the page. I'm really happy with the way it came out and think it's a unique peace.

A special thank you to Amy for letting me work on and create such a fun image! This has been a really enjoyable project and I hope your sister loves the print.

Fashion Friday

Kate Spade sent out their holiday gift guide today and I have to say, not only am I obsessed with Kate Spade, but I can't get enough of the lollipop reds, kelly greens, pretty golds, and winter whites. I think my favorite of the images below is the top left image of the girl in the white blouse, she is wearing a necklace that is actually a pen, LOVE IT!

I've also added a new addition to my fashion Friday post, this is how I would wear it:

... what do you think? Are you a fan of Kate Spade?

All found on katespade.com except the illustration, that's mine :-)

A Picture A Day

Hi Sweets, and Happy Friday!

So the art sale last night went ok. I definitely learned a lot, specifically that I'm to shy for my own good. I feel awkward talking myself up and literally "selling" myself. It was a challenge to say the least. Overall though, I met some great people, made some contacts, sold some work, and have a long list of things I want to change, update, and just do differently for next week's show. For now here is a little view of my actual table.

Thank you everyone who sent or commented suggestions! I will be doing them next time for sure.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and a great week!

A Picture A Day (well sort of)

My apologies sweets for missing yesterday's "A Picture A Day," and today I don't have a new picture to show you either! I promise though, I have a good excuse... tonight is my first art & craft show and I've been working very hard for the last few weeks trying to prepare. Tonight's show will be at Gwynedd Mercy High School's Shopping Night from 6 until 8:30. This week has been spent finalizing and printing new designs, putting together boxes of cards, getting prints ready, packaging totes, and making calenders.

In addition, since I've never done a show before, I had no idea what to do with the set-up. I will have an eight foot table to fill with my work and last night I messed around with settings. Below are my attempts to make a table look warm and inviting. Tonight I want to try to make it look a little less cluttered, but it's a step in the right direction. I'll show you photos tomorrow of the final and the show, but for now take a look at my trials.

Wish me luck, and if you have any advice I'd love to hear it!

Have a wonderful Thursday!!

Pinterest Pics

It's Tuesday and it's time for my Pinterest Pics of the week! For some reason I've been drawn to these moody blues, greens, yellows, and tans this week. There is just something so tranquil about these pics. What do you think? What has been catching your eye recently?

A Picture A Day

The holidays are getting  closer and with a  few shows coming up I need all of my holiday cards ready to go. Here's a little peak at one that I'm hoping to include!

A Picture A Day

Happy Monday Sweets! How was your weekend?

Mine was fun and spent in Cape May, New Jersey, an adorable Victorian beach town. I was there for a girl's weekend and I shopped, relaxed, ate to much yummy food, and just enjoyed fun times with the "girls".

While there I did a few hand sketches. Below is one. What do you think?

Fashion Friday

When Prince William and Kate Middleton were married there were a bunch of fashion related articles in every glossy magazine and on the news, etc. about places that "Kate" likes to shop.

I personally love her style and think she is beautiful and I needed check out the shops online stores. Whistles was one of the stores I read about and is probably one of my favorites and while I haven't actually shopped there myself there are always looks I'm coveting. Below are a few of my favorites. Have you shopped at Whistles before?

All outfits are from http://www.whistles.co.uk/

A Picture A Day

It's been a long week for me, for multiple reasons, but there are always lessons to be learned especially when it comes to challenges.

Below are multiple sketches I've been working on. They still aren't quite what she is looking for, I haven't "hit the nail-on-the-head" so to speak, but I'm learning that sometimes this will only push me to be better, and most importantly, each illustration will be even better then I imagined to begin with. So with that being said, sometimes the most important lessons are the hardest to learn, but if I keep trying, hopefully I will succeed.

Currently Reading: How to Make Money Using Etsy

I'm currently reading How to Make Money Using Etsy by Timothy Adam, an artist, etsy store owner, blogger, and entrepreneur. So far the book has been great. It walks you through the steps of setting up your store, teaches you things you should focus on and enhance, how blogging and social media are exteremely important, and that photography is one of the most imporatant parts of selling your products.

So far, my favorite section of the books deals with a group of interviews of successful full-time bloggers and etsy sellers. Something that I like most is that over and over again they all tell you to be yourself and to have fun. You can't worry about the number of readers or how quickly you are moving forward. They know and understand that it takes time and that you just have to believe in yourself and what makes you unique. The majority of them also all started their blogs as a means of exploration. Because they were looking for something. It became an outlet, a way for them to be doing exactly what they wanted to be doing, and eventually, it allowed them to quit their day job and become full time sellers and bloggers.

This book has been great. And while every piece might not directly apply to me I have learned so much and will try new things and hopefully expand my friend base, client base, and products based on things I learn and try from this book. Mostly I like this book because it lets me know that if you love something enough, have a unique voice, and believe in yourself, with simple marketing and the right imagery you can be successful... Now I just need to get working :-)

If you have an etsy store or are thinking about opening one I def recommend you read this.

A Picture A Day

It's finally Thursday and one more day til Friday, which also means one more day until I leave for a fabulous girl's weekend in Cape May. I cannot wait!

And continuing with the girlie note, I've been thinking about/starting to work on a line of girls in evening gowns. I want them to be couture fashion illustrations. For now, they are just hand-drawn sketches, no final images yet, but here's a little sneak peak! I'll continue to show you updates, and of course, finals, as I have them!

Sweet Muse: Moroccan Details

I've been drawn to Moroccan patterns and decor for a long time now and lately it seems to be everywhere. I love the contrast in the patterns and the way they can be so modern and glamorous. Lamps, pillows, rugs, curtains, and various other accessories allow me to sneak pattern into my home but I also like to use it in my illustrations adding a pop of color, pattern, and interest to especially flat areas.

The images below feature some of my favorite ideas and styles.

What do you think of these patterns?

Good morning Sweets! How is everyone's week going so far?!

Mine sadly is dragging and my "day job" is making me nuts. But at least I have my wonderful freelance projects, new friends, and exciting new illustrations to make me smile!

Below is another peak at a second sketch that is part of the BFF illustration project first shown a few weeks ago, it's another idea, still not the final, but I really like the attitude and positions in this one.

What do you think?

Pinterest Picks of the week!

I'm starting a new post, "Pinterest Picks of the Week." A place to feature the beautiful images that can be found and seen on Pinterest.com.

I love Pinterest. It is one of my main sources of inspiration. Images appear featuring everything from DIY craft projects, places to travel, home decor, fashion, art... you name it. I can loose complete hours just looking at this site.

Below are a few of my favorites from this week, lots of sparkle, full of glamour, high fashion, and Parisian excitement!

All images can be found on Pinterest.com via the search Sparkles!

A Picture A Day

This week is going to be a week filled with hand-drawn sketches. I create these when I have an idea and need to get it out quickly and don't want to spend the hours it takes to pick the right color palette and line weights that go into a final design. They are a study of character, position, and expression. I'll create finals based on these and show you them in the coming weeks, but for now enjoy my hand-drawn studies!

Happy Tuesday!
