Designer Inspired Spring Fashion

credits starting with left outfit. Emerson Fry Pockets Blouse in Blush, Emerson Fry Skinny Straights, Emerson Fry VHeel Slingback. Right image/Look for Less: Loft Fluid Henley Blouse, Loft Classic Frame Sunglasses, 6pm Michael Michael Kors belt, Loft Modern Crop White Jeans, 6pm Nine West Blooming Slingback.

See the outfit on the left. That's my Emerson Fry Inspiration. Emerson Fry is one of my favorite designers right now. Their looks are simple, chic, classic, and even a little sexy. What better combination right?

Well since I can't afford for my entire wardrobe to be right out of Emerson Fry's lookbook I started to look around for similar pieces that will allow me to feel that same chic / classic vibe but for a fraction of the price.

I looked at some of my other go-to / favorite places and found pieces that are very similar for much much less... I started at Loft and found the majority of the outfit there; the henley in almost the exact buttery pink blush color and straight leg white jean crop pants! And since I was saving so much money I also peaked at their sunglasses and found a pair similar to the Emerson Fry photo there too. With the outfit almost complete I checked out another one of my favorite online discount sites, 6pm, and finished the outfit off with the shoes and belt.

What do you think? Can you picture the pieces on the right looking similar to the ones on the left when put together?

A Picture A Day: Somthing New

I'm working on a project with a Stylist located in Australia. The direction we are working in is a little different from my "norm" but I'm really loving it so far. One of the things she really liked was a watercolor type style that is more gestural or brush stroke oriented and less "refined." So since I have not worked with watercolor in awhile and we already had a drawing that I drew digitally I decided to print the drawing onto watercolor paper, multiple times, and just have fun painting and try different ideas with the color and style.

I had a ton of fun working on these and while it's still in progress and I can't tell you which direction we went in yet, I did want to share these fashion watercolor sketches with you.

What do you think?

A Picture A Day

I recently finished working on a blog header for the lovely Andrea and her blog Passports and Pushchairs about traveling with children.

This was such a fun project. Andrea had very few requests when she asked me to create her blog header. She asked that her two children be part of the illustration, and since they have dual citizenship in the US and UK, she wanted one holding a passport from each of the two countries. Andrea also requested that the background include a mixed cityscape of different famous cities around the world. Other then that the image was pretty open, so I started sketching, and this is what we came up with.

What do you think?

A special thank you to Andrea! You were wonderful to work with and I hope you love your new blog header!

Happy Anniversary!

I can't even believe it, my blog turned two today! How is that even possible!?

Two years ago my blog started with two characters, Coco and Louie, the desire to follow my heart, find inspiration, and grow as an illustrator. I have met incredible people along the way, worked on amazing projects, and look forward to every day knowing I'm doing what I love.

A special thank you to each and every one of you. Without your continued support I would never have been able to say all this! It truly means the world to me :-)

Well I'm so excited to have gotten this far and I can't wait to continue and grow over the next few years!

Happy Anniversary to me (LOL)!

A Picture A Day Fashion Inspiration

Emerson Fry Mick Pant Ivory Tee, Emerson Fry Pull Tab Skirt, Emerson Fry Slangback khaki Leather Flats, Michael Kors Anchor Link Drama Bracelet, and Joie Edie Zip Tote

I don't know about you but I online window shop ALL the time. It helps for inspiration - for sure - but then also makes my wishlist a mile long. Right now the looks and things I'm loving for spring are neutrals. Pretty ivory, taupe, stone, cement, even that beautiful blush pink - so light it counts as a neutral. Above is probably my favorite look though. The outfit is from Emerson Fry and the accessories are from Shopbop.

What do you think? What looks are you wearing this Spring?

Currently Reading: The Host

The Host
I recently finished reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer... Don't judge... you know you read young adult books sometimes too... lol ... and I loved it! I read the 600 page book in three days. Literally couldn't put it down.

In typical Stephanie Meyer fashion there is a love story/love triangle as well as a sci-fi twist. The book is about a Earth that has been taken over by Alien parasites, "souls", who take over the minds of humans. The remaining humans live in hiding, trying not to be caught and taken over by this Alien race.

The story is told through the eyes of one "soul", Wanderer, who has been to eight other worlds in her lifetime and truly believes she is making each world she touches better. But when she takes over Melanie Stryder she learns a lot about humans and their strength. Melanie refuses to let Wanderer take over. Melanie's memories and emotions are so strong that Wanderer starts to feel them too. She learns about Melanie's brother and boyfriend, still in hiding, and loves them as strongly as Melanie. Over the course of their time together they become allies, try to find Melanie's family, and figure out how to live together.

If you are looking for a great, quick, light read this book is perfect.

Has anyone else read The Host? What did you think?

Whenever I miss close to a week... and almost two if you don't count Fridays... I feel the need to explain. I love working on my blog, but sometimes life just gets in the way a little... so this is where I've been and what I've been up to. It's been a crazy couple of weeks, but they have also been really fun weeks. So it started with a Boston trip for Passover, then the Poconos a few days after, then Easter, then catching up on lots of work including the blog sketch you see above, then we went to DC and now I'm finally home. The next few weeks will be back to a normal routine, basically from now until May, so I'll be back and will have a lot of work to show you!

Hope you have a great Monday!

A Picture A Day

I was looking through Boden's latest catalogue and came across an outfit and girl that looked similar to this one... Pixy blond hair, cigarette pants, red sailor striped shirt, and black ballet flats and I loved the look... and then I had to laugh a little... This is probably the outfit I wear the most. black or navy sailor stripes, skinny ankle length pants, and ballet flats... add a scarf, a leather jacket, and shoulder length brown hair and it's definitely my favorite look/me...

Do you have an outfit you wear all the time?
